Proposed Convention Rules Amendment

This proposed amendment to the Official Convention Rules further clarifies and strengthens existing language that requires candidates endorsed by the Convention to run on the slogan "Atlantic County Democratic Committee."  Currently, in order to be eligible to run at our Convention, the Rules stipulate that prospective candidates must agree to run on the primary ballot slogan "Atlantic County Democratic Committee" should they win the Convention. While four gubernatorial candidates have already expressed interest in running at our Convention in order to use our slogan, one gubernatorial candidate and his down-ballot candidates have publicly disavowed county conventions and already pledged to run on their own slogan in the primary election.

While that is their right as candidates, we have a responsibility in making sure that Convention delegates are only considering prospective candidates who are genuinely interested in running with our county and local candidates. While we feel the Rules as currently written would prohibit candidates who refuse our slogan from seeking the endorsement of the Convention, the proposed amendment would eliminate any confusion.
