Atlantic County Democrats Request to Join Court Effort to Fight Trump Campaign's Vote-by-Mail Challenge

Today, the Atlantic County Democratic Committee filed a motion in U.S. District Court to intervene as an interested party in the Trump Campaign’s lawsuit to stop mail-in voting in the State of New Jersey.

Donald Trump’s efforts to delegitimize our system of elections is a grave threat to our democracy,” said Chairman Suleiman. “What’s equally disturbing is that the Atlantic County and New Jersey Republican parties would help President Trump erode our democratic institutions. As Chairman, I say ‘no more.’ We’re going to fight back, and we’re going to win.”

Today, at Chairman Suleiman’s direction, lead election law attorney for the Atlantic County Democratic Committee, Robert D. Herman, Esquire, filed a motion to intervene in the Trump v. Murphy litigation.

“What they’re doing takes a lot of chutzpah!” said Herman. They didn’t have a problem with the vote-by-mail election for the Republican Primary Election–not a peep. But now that it’s a General Election, somehow they’re suddenly up in arms.”

Executive Order 144, issued back in mid-May regarding the July 7, 2020 Primary Election, contains virtually identical vote-by-mail provisions as Executive Order 177. The major differences between the two is where Republican candidates are currently polling.

“It’s laughable,” said Suleiman. If the Republicans really had a problem with voting by mail, why wait till now?”
